Meerbusch, May 15, 2023 – Epson, the leading manufacturer of SCARA robots, presents the SCARA-GX-B series, the latest generation of high-performance SCARA robots based on the existing, successful GX series. While the new GX4-B series with arm lengths between 250 and 350 mm is designed for a payload of up to 4 kg, the GX8-B series covers ranges between 450 and 650 mm and moves a payload of up to 8 kg. Both robot families are available in standard, ESD or clean room versions and can be ordered immediately.
The new SCARAs of the GX-B series have been improved with new, important safety functions compared to their predecessors, the existing, very successful GX-SCARAs. The GX-B offer tangible advantages in their installation and in the production run, as they not only increase the possibility of human intervention in an ongoing work process, but also reduce the cost per cycle time due to their reliability and further improved performance.
The new safety function (SLS function) defines certain safety areas within the robot’s working area that can be graded according to the risk of a collision. Depending on the location of a sensitive object (e.g. a human hand) within one of these areas, previously defined working speeds for the robot are automatically set. For example, if something moves in one of these areas, the machine slows down accordingly until it finally stops when the most sensitive area is violated. The risk zones vary with the current position of the robot.
Thanks to this flexible handling of the safety zones, the SLS function will significantly reduce the downtime of work cells with GX-B robots and speed up their setup.
